Silver Medals Leah Ghebrelul poses for a picture in the speech room after advancing to regions in UIL. After competing in both LD and Extempt, she secured the win in the latter. “I had a lot of fun, and I’m excited for regions,” Ghebrelul said.

On April 6, students left for Glenda Dawson High School at 6:40 AM for UIL. After weeks of preparation, students arrived at the school ready to compete. With entries in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Poetry, and Extemporaneous Speaking, students were eager to do their best. Ultimately, Sean McClain placed 5 in Poetry and all Extemp competitors advanced to regions. Shalom Akinkunmi and Rebecca Oyeniyi advanced in Informative Extemp, and Nyla Whiteside, Erica Carranza, and Leah Ghebrelul advanced in Persuasive Extemp. With regions shortly approaching, all advancing competitors continue to practice their skills.
