Glowing Smiles The Speech and Debate team poses for a picture at the end of the Hastings Tournament. This marks one of the last competitions of the season to earn state points. “The team has come so far, and I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished,” said sophomore Erica Carranza.

On Saturday, January 27, the speech and debate team left for Elsik High School to compete at their annual school tournament. With a total of 719 entries, the atmosphere was extremely competitive. Ultimately, Nyla Whiteside place 5 in varsity Congress and Team LASER placed 2 in varsity World Schools. However, with little time to celebrate, they needed to prepare for their own tournament coming up this Saturday, February 3. Students stayed afterschool that week Tuesday to create concession posters and prepare rooms for competitors.
