Endless Smiles Leah Ghebrelul and Nyla Whiteside congratulate each other after a long day of debate at the Ross Sterling Tournament. With city qualifiers coming up, this competition was great practice. “I had a lot of fun,” said Whiteside.

On January 20, the speech and debate team left for Ross Sterling High School from the Elsik North Gym at 7 AM. With rounds starting as early as 8 AM, students were quick to prepare their casework and get to their assigned rooms. With entries in Congress, World Schools, CX, and LD, the team was busy throughout the entire day. Ultimately, Nyla Whiteside placed 4 in Congress, Lena Van placed 5 in Congress, team LASER placed 4 in World Schools, and Gabrielle Brown and Ai Tran placed 2 in CX. With city qualifiers coming up shortly, the competition continues to intensify between schools.
