Clicking Away Sophomore Erica Carranza works on her debate case for Saturday afterschool at Kim’s Tea House. The topic for the tournament discusses automobile investment versus investment in public transportation. “I hope to place in the top 2,” said Erica.

This Saturday, January 20, Speech and Debate will be competing at MacArthur School for their second-to-last tournament of the CASE circuit. With entries in world schools, Lincoln Douglas debate, public forum, and congress, members have been preparing for this competition over the past two weeks. With the final preparation days coming to a close, debaters have been meeting outside of school hours to complete their casework. To earn state points, competitors must place 1 or 2 in their category. Seeing as the competition season is nearing its end, debaters are meeting and working much more often.
