Things you should know: misquoted quotes

Some of the most famous lines in history were never really said. Here’s a list of quotes you probably got wrong. Sources: The Internet Movie Database, tvtropes.org.

 

Wrong:  “Luke, I am your father.” 

Right: “No! I am your father!”

 

Wrong: “Beam me up, Scotty.” 

Right: “Scotty, beam me up.”

 

Wrong: “Money is the root of all evil.” 

Right: “The love of money is the root of all evil” or “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”

 

Wrong: “Mirror, mirror on the wall.”

Right: “Magic mirror on the wall.”

 

Wrong: “Houston, we have a problem.” 

Right: “Okay, Houston, we have a problem here.”

 

Wrong: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

Right: “If  there’s more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way.”

 

Wrong: “Everyone gets 15 minutes of fame.” 

Right: “In the future, everybody will be world famous for 15 minutes.”

 

Wrong:I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”

Right:  “I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

 

Wrong: Sherlock Holmes never said “Elementary, my dear Watson” in the original Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle.
