Speech and Debate sweeps first place at Alief Taylor High School tournament

Speech & Debate made a comeback this tournament and scored first place in Sweepstakes, making this the fourth time Speech & Debate has placed first this season.

The winners are as followed:

For Duo Interpretation, seniors Jamarcus Lacy and Krystal Uchem placed first, freshman Crystal Nguyen and sophomore Duong Vu placed second, seniors Alex Vinh and Tam Tran placed third, and freshmen Rem Aitbouchireb and Lauren Trinh placed fifth.

In Duet, freshmen Rem Aitbouchireb and Lauren Trinh placed first, and senior Tam Tran and junior Kyndhal Stewart placed seventh.

For Dramatic Interpretation, senior Jamarcus Lacy placed second, sophomore Jannette Nguyen placed fifth, and sophomore Yvonne Taboh placed sixth.

For Humorous Interpretation, senior Alex Vinh placed first, freshman Saul Flores placed third, freshman Lauren Trinh placed fourth, sophomore Duong Vu placed fifth, and senior Tam Tran placed sixth.

For Impromptu Speaking, junior Kyndhal Stewart placed fifth.

For Oratory Speaking, senior Blessing Falade placed fifth.

For Poetry Interpretation, junior Kyndhal Stewart placed fourth and senior Blessing Falade placed sixth.

For Prose Interpretation, Kerr swept the podium with sophomore Mariah Menendez placed first, Jamarcus Lacy placed second, and sophomore Jannette Nguyen placed fourth.

For Novice Poetry Interpretation, freshmen Rem Aitbouchireb, Crystal Nguyen, and Amanda Paz took first, fifth, and sixth respectively.

For Novice Prose Interpretation, freshman Rem Aitbouchireb placed first, senior Blessing Falade placed fourth, freshmen Amanda Paz and Saul Flores took sixth and eighth, respectively.

For Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, sophomore Azra Mirza placed second.

In Congressional Debate, senior Princess Adentan placed third, sophomore Mariah Menendez took sixth, senior Bridget Hyde took seventh, and junior Jun Tan placed eighth.

In the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, junior Emily Nguyen placed first.

Additionally, there were three students that earned speaker awards. Junior Emily Nguyen took first place in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate varsity-level competition, sophomore Azra Mirza placed third in the Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and sophomore Misti Fulmer took third place in varsity-level Cross-Examination.
