On Monday August 21, 2017, all of North America will experience a solar eclipse. It is set to begin in Houston at 11:46 AM to 2:46 PM, with the best viewing at 1:15 PM.
Houston will have a 69% coverage of the sun by the moon.
Although it is a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon worth seeing, avoid looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection. A possible effect of looking directly at the sun during the solar eclipse is irreversible eye damage. Don’t use sunglasses as they do not have strong enough ISO to protect your eyes.
However, there are a few ways to view the eclipse properly and safely. You can use a pair of ISO certified eclipse glasses or filter to protect your eyes, camera, and telescope. You can also create a pinhole camera to view the eclipse.
