CollegeWeekLive events coming this week for seniors

October 31, 2011

CollegeWeekLive events will take place on  November 2 and 3 that are geared toward high school seniors.

CollegeWeekLive is the leading online college fair and admissions event website.  It offers live campus tours and admissions event all online for free. Parents and students could connect with participating colleges and learn about campus life, tuition fees, and tips about college from experts. CollegeWeekLive is also giving out more than $15,000 in scholarships. Students will be entered for this giveaway if they attend an event on this website.

Students can sign up for free and gain access to over 450 colleges across the nation at Collegeweeklive.com.

Bring Your Dish: ASA and Desi Club officers set up tables for members to enjoy the food. The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Staying Prepared: Counselor Laura Tully speaks to seniors about applying for FAFSA/TASFA. Students are required to complete the form since it is a requirement for graduation. "Know that we're here to help," Tully said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asked questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.

Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
