Freshmen will take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) for the first time at Kerr on October 13.
“We believe that the more times that you have the opportunity to practice and take the [PSAT], the better you will do on the SAT, because you will get used to that format and timed tests,” said Principal Greg Freeman.
Sophomores and juniors have taken the PSAT for several years, but school officials decided to give the test to freshmen as well.
The PSAT is a timed test that is similar to the Scholastic Aptitude Test given for college admission. Scores on the PSAT are used to predict future success on the SAT; in addition, juniors can be considered for awards from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation based on their scores.
