MSA Prepares for Charity Week

Members started off the meeting by bowing their heads to pray. Afterwards, they discussed the upcoming Charity Week, which aims to raise funds for countries in need. Members also enjoyed playing games and learning more about each other. “We want to do our part to make a positive difference,” Meerab Arif shared.

At the Muslim Student Association (MSA) general meeting on October 17, 2024, members gathered to discuss upcoming events and build a community environment through group activities. Members introduced themselves to foster a welcoming environment for both new and returning participants. Afterwards, they prayed MSA also took part in prayers and played a game of Mafia to bond.  The meeting’s main topic was Charity Week–which will take place next week–it aims to raise funds to support underprivileged countries.

Bring Your Dish: ASA and Desi Club officers set up tables for members to enjoy the food. The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Staying Prepared: Counselor Laura Tully speaks to seniors about applying for FAFSA/TASFA. Students are required to complete the form since it is a requirement for graduation. "Know that we're here to help," Tully said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asked questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.

Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
