NHS Hosts Blood Drive

Helpful Recovery. Abigail Nguyen, Urooj Hashmi, and Jessica Huynh waited to walk donors back to class. They waited for 15 minutes after the donation to ensure patients remained well. “Helping people is fun,” Urooji Hashmi said.

On September 27, National Honor Society hosted their first Blood Drive of the year with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center from 7:15 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Those who donated received a pair of socks and snacks. There were volunteers for various roles such as check-in and recovery. Students who signed up for check-in helped donors sign-in and complete a questionnaire. Those in recovery stayed with donors for at least 15 minutes after they gave blood to ensure they showed no related symptoms to dizziness.

The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asked questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.

Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
