Debate 101! Sophia Ghebrelul carefully explains the structure of Lincoln-Douglass debate to Ngoc Ho. This is Ho’s first year doing debate and she is nervous for the tournament happening in two weeks. “Once you understand the basics of debate, the tournament will come as a breeze to you,” Ghebrelul said.
On August 24, the Speech and Debate team won their first sweepstakes in a decade at the Foster Creek tournament. But the speech and debaters didn’t let their guard down and held an after school meeting on August 27. They announced and celebrated their win during the meeting and continued practicing for the upcoming September tournaments. Experienced speech and debaters continued to sharpen their skills by doing practice rounds, while new members sought support with writing a speech for the first time. The team is working hard to build on their success and continue the winning streak.
