Practicing After Solo Ensemble

The band director firmly instructed his students on their individual practice regimen for the day. “Time to put in the work,” said Nifemi Oladesu as he walked off.

After their big band concert on April 23rd, the musicians returned to the practice room today. The excitement from the performance was still in the air, with students chatting about highlights and giving praises. However, the director quickly got them focused on individual practice time. Musicians spread out into different areas, each one working alone on scales, exercises, and Solo pieces. The room was filled with the sounds of students carefully going over tough sections and techniques.

The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Staying Prepared: Counselor Laura Tully speaks to seniors about applying for FAFSA/TASFA. Students are required to complete the form since it is a requirement for graduation. "Know that we're here to help," Tully said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asks questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.
Math Club Prepares for Competitions
Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
