Nyla Whiteside and Sean MClain celebrate their victory at City Qualifiers on the bus ride back to Elsik. They used this tournament as practice for Congress UIL. “It’s good to know that I am one of the best,” said McClain.
On February 10, speech and debate members left for MacArthur High School from the Elsik North Gym for the final competition before cities. This competition determined the highest seats for the city competition at the courthouse, making it crucial for competitors to gain an advantage later on. Ultimately, the two varsity WSD teams took 3 and 4 place, Nyla Whiteside and Sean McClain took 1 and 2, and Sophia Ghebrelul took 2 in LD. With cities coming up on March 2 and state coming up on March 7, debaters work tirelessly to prepare for the end of the season.
