Team LASER Rocks The House At UT

Walking On Sunshine Erica Carranza, Sarah Abi Saab, Leah Ghebrelul, and Abigail Nguyen pose after winning their speaker awards for the UT Tournament. There were 42 teams present, constituting around 200 competitors. “It was the perfect birthday gift,” said Carranza.

On Friday, December 1, at 11 AM, Worlds Schools Team LASER left for Austin from the Alief Transportation Center. Following their arrival three hours later, the team put their belongings in the hotel room, got dressed, and drove to the UT campus for their first day of debate. After 6 preliminary rounds that took place on Friday and Saturday, speaker awards were announced. Out of over 200 competitors, Erica Carranza placed 1, Sarah Abi Saab placed 6, Leah Ghebrelul placed 11, and Abigail Nguyen placed 20. Out of the three Houston teams that broke to octofinals, Team LASER was ranked the highest in speaker points.

Math Club Prepares for Competitions
Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
Band Students Compete for Honors
Sign Up! Khavian Nguyen signs in at Mu Alpha Theta’s third meeting of the year. She was eager to learn more about next week’s induction event. "I love math—it’s something I even do for fun in my free time," Nguyen said.

New Club Alert! Myua Truong, Khoi Nguyen, and Bao Quan Ho proudly introduce their new club, VSA (Vietnamese Student Association). They designed a poster featuring intricate Asian heritage details. "This is going to be such a fun club—I’m really excited for it to begin," Truong said.

It’s time for a mid-knight snack! Freshman Trang Trinh cheers for football team with poster. It was Trinh’s first Kerr football game. “I knew Kerr was going to win from the start,” Trinh said.
