Speech and Debate Hosts Its First Friendsgiving Potluck

Forks Up Amen Moreda, Leah Ghebrelul, Gabrielle Brown, Derek Davis, Nyla Whiteside, Nathaly Joj, and Ameerah Rose gather in the teacher’s lounge Thursday afternoon to celebrate Friendsgiving. Many of the food and snacks available were provided by students. “The pie was definitley my favorite part,” said Whiteside.

On Thursday, November 16, Speech and Debate members gathered in the teacher’s lounge after school to celebrate their first annual Friendsgiving Potluck. Students began by eating a great variety of food and snacks, including but not limited to turkey stuffing, rice, chili, pumpkin pie, and so much more. Attendees then went around and described what they were thankful for in their lives, ultimately creating a sense of unity between members. Lastly, the club officers hosted an Among Us game for their peers before having to clean up. The club hopes that this is the first of many future team-building events and socials.

The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.
Math Club Prepares for Competitions
Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
Band Students Compete for Honors
Sign Up! Khavian Nguyen signs in at Mu Alpha Theta’s third meeting of the year. She was eager to learn more about next week’s induction event. "I love math—it’s something I even do for fun in my free time," Nguyen said.
Exploring Math: Mu Alpha Theta
New Club Alert! Myua Truong, Khoi Nguyen, and Bao Quan Ho proudly introduce their new club, VSA (Vietnamese Student Association). They designed a poster featuring intricate Asian heritage details. "This is going to be such a fun club—I’m really excited for it to begin," Truong said.
Vietnamese Student Association Takes Over
It’s time for a mid-knight snack! Freshman Trang Trinh cheers for football team with poster. It was Trinh’s first Kerr football game. “I knew Kerr was going to win from the start,” Trinh said.
