Forensics Studies Blood Splatter Labs

Examples of blood splatters from students’ labs in Forensics.

Yetzel Werner’s Forensic classes are experimenting with “blood” splatters in their labs in order to understand how the difference in height affects patterns and diameter.

Three drops of fake blood, representing three trials (for accuracy), were dropped at each height and studied.

In another lab titled Death at the Door, a “body” was found at the front door with two suspects: a plumber and an electrician. Samples of blood were tested in order to determine if they were any similarities. Additionally, cloth from both suspects were obtained and substances were tested to determine whether or not they contained blood. The lab allows students to understand the chemical and physical characteristics involved in investigating blood splatters at crime scenes.

Labs are due by Thursday, October 27.
