Hurricane Harvey makeup date Oct. 9

Alief ISD schools were closed from Friday, August 25 through Friday, September 8, 2017 due to the events of Hurricane Harvey that unfolded. In order to makeup for the lost time, the upcoming student holiday on October 9, Columbus Day, will be a make-up day. This will be the only makeup day given due to the school board’s decision to waiver the other nine missed school days.

The decision was announced in a letter from superintendent HD Chambers to all Alief staff members on September 20.

Merry Christmas! Ashley Michelle Chavez Carrillo and Sharon Naomi Piedrasanta enjoy festive treats. They stayed afterschool for NAHS celebration. "This is so delicious, and I’m so happy to be sharing it with my best friend," Piedrasanta said.
NAHS Takes Christmas
Bring Your Dish: ASA and Desi Club officers set up tables for members to enjoy the food. The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Staying Prepared: Counselor Laura Tully speaks to seniors about applying for FAFSA/TASFA. Students are required to complete the form since it is a requirement for graduation. "Know that we're here to help," Tully said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asked questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
