District weather make-up day June 3

May 9, 2016

Due to lost days from flooding in the area, the last day of the school year has been changed to Friday, June 3.

In a letter sent to staff, Alief Superintendent H.D. Chambers said Alief ISD submitted a waiver request for three missed school days, but the TEA (Texas Education Agency) only waivered two days.

The last teacher workday of the school year will be on Saturday, June 4, or Monday, June 6.

The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.

Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
