FBLA members earn awards at state competition

March 18, 2015

Ten members of Future Business Leaders of America have qualified for national competition after attending the State Leadership Conference in San Antonio on March 5-7.

The results are:

  • 1st place Help Desk: National Qualifier — Dara Hall
  • 1st place Entrepreneurship: National Qualifier team event — Matthew Marquez and Noah McMurray
  • 2nd place Word Processing: National Qualifier — Ivanna Navarete
  • 2nd place Business Procedures: National Qualifier –Hong Nguyen
  • 3rd place Healthcare Administration: National Qualifier — Jennifer Tong
  • 3rd place Hospitality Management: National Qualifier team event — Harrison Do, Sharon Vong, and Cindy Tran
  • 3rd place Business Law: National Qualifier — Thanh Le
  • 5th place Sports & Entertainment Management: National Alternate team event — Son Doan, William Huang, and Kevin Tjon
  • 5th place Agri Business: National Alternate — Anderson Igben
  • 5th place Business Ethics: National Alternate team event — Van Luong and My Quan

Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.
Math Club Prepares for Competitions
Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
Band Students Compete for Honors
Sign Up! Khavian Nguyen signs in at Mu Alpha Theta’s third meeting of the year. She was eager to learn more about next week’s induction event. "I love math—it’s something I even do for fun in my free time," Nguyen said.

New Club Alert! Myua Truong, Khoi Nguyen, and Bao Quan Ho proudly introduce their new club, VSA (Vietnamese Student Association). They designed a poster featuring intricate Asian heritage details. "This is going to be such a fun club—I’m really excited for it to begin," Truong said.
Vietnamese Student Association Takes Over
It’s time for a mid-knight snack! Freshman Trang Trinh cheers for football team with poster. It was Trinh’s first Kerr football game. “I knew Kerr was going to win from the start,” Trinh said.
