King and Queen of Hearts return

February 11, 2014

On Thursday, February 13, and Friday, February 14, Student Council will hold their annual King and Queen of Hearts game. All students are allowed to participate in this activity.

During advisory on Thursday and Friday, advisors will have red paper hearts to pass out to either the girls or guys in their advisory.

On Thursday, girls will have the hearts, while guys will try to steal them by getting girls to talk.

On Friday, the roles reverse and the guys will get the hearts and girls will try to steal them.

At the end of the day, students must bring their hearts to STUCO Adviser Margaret Bancroft in the Science center. The girl and guy who has the most hearts will be named the King and Queen of Hearts.

Bring Your Dish: ASA and Desi Club officers set up tables for members to enjoy the food. The cafeteria was cleared out, and the tables were arranged in a “U” shape to create a space for everyone to socialize. “It was a bit difficult setting everything up during fourth period, but we managed to finish in time,” Desi Club president Meerab Arif said.

Staying Prepared: Counselor Laura Tully speaks to seniors about applying for FAFSA/TASFA. Students are required to complete the form since it is a requirement for graduation. "Know that we're here to help," Tully said.

Geared Up: News reporter Brooke Kushwaha interviews Senior Iqra Naveed. Kushwaha asks questions about Naveed’s college application and what she is deciding to do after high school. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to interview me at the event, but it was fun,” Naveed said.
Alief Hosts Horus Scholars Event
Tracking Volunteer Contributions: Members review their tutoring documentation during the November 13th advisory meeting. The club discussed upcoming competitions, including the Texas Math League and Mu Alpha Theta, while reinforcing the importance of mentoring and volunteer hours. Members are required to log weekly tutoring sessions to maintain active status in the club. “This helps us track our hours and stay committed," Princess Eche said.

Perfecting the Notes: Clarinet players Ifetayo Taiwo and Taylor Nguyen practice ahead of their Honor Band auditions. They dedicated hours of preparation on their clarinet pieces to ensure their performances stood out. “It’s an intense process, but I think it’s worth it to make it,” Taiwo said.
