A dying art that I’m proud to say I’m a part of.
In the beginning, journalism class was just an elective and newspaper was just an easy way to earn a letter man jacket. Despite the crude initial perspective, I learned as time passed to appreciate the hidden gem that journalism really is. Writing stories helped improve my essay writing. Interviewing people helped me come out of my shell. Designing pages helped promote my creativity. All of these actions helped me grow not only as a student, but as a person.
Of course, there is much more to newspaper than the academic benefits and life skills earned. First off, we’re always partying! That’s right, newspaper knows how to get down and funky. Second off, we have snack city! Filled with scumptions cookies, crisp chips, and sparkling sodas; snack city made everyday a little sweeter. Due to the staff member’s Godzilla like appetites though, the city is now barren with only crumbs of the glorious memories of what snack city use to be. Lastly, I made some pretty awesome friends along the way. People who I never expected to even say a word to turned out to be pretty amazing.
What started off as just another class, turned out to be an exciting adventure in my life. Regardless of the stress, small bickering, and constant procrastination; it was a good experience I’m glad I was able to share with the newspaper staff.
