Question: How was your high school experience?
Answer: My high school experience was pretty positive. I think of my high school years as pretty happy years. I had good friends, I enjoyed learning. My school was somewhat like Kerr. We were very responsible, we were trusted to do a lot of the learning on our own, and we did have a lot of advanced classes. We were an experimental school that allowed us to take classes with college professors so by the time I graduated high school, I technically had a lot of credits for college or university. I went to school in Moscow, Russia. So I finished high school and college, or university, in Russia.

Q: Why did you become a teacher?
A: Because I think it’s an honorable profession, because I wanted to give back to the community. I know it sounds cliche but while I was trying to figure out things that would make me personally happy, I thought that I could be doing something for other people.

Q: How did you end up teaching at Kerr?
A: Someone I worked with a while ago contacted me, someone who was working at Kerr and someone I worked with at Olle [Middle School] before, contacted me and let me know that there was an opening at Kerr and they think that I would be a good fit. And I applied, and then I interviewed, and that’s how I ended up at Kerr.

Q: Why did you make the decision to switch from English to Social Studies?
A: I’ve always loved history, and my mom is a history professor. I love languages, but at some point I think I thought that I wanted a change because things because things become kind of like… not stale, but you just wanted a change. So I felt like a change, the challenge, and then I created a challenge that might have been more than I was wishing for. But I think that the difficult part is behind me at this point and I’m really enjoying it because I got to learn a lot of new things.

Q: What do you like the most about Kerr?
A: I love the students at Kerr! No, seriously, I love the students at Kerr because they are all… because they are very responsible, because they are hardworking, because they are sweet, and because it feels like family. Everybody knows each other, so I like that about Kerr. I like that we’re different and unique and this is just a very special place.
