Summer classes at Rice University available to classes of 2014 and 2015

The Susanne M. Glasscock of Continuing Studies at Rice University will be offering “Rice for High School Students: College Credit in the Summer.”

This program is for junior and seniors from classes 2014 and 2015 and allows students to take one course in Rice University’s regular summer school alongside current Rice students and visiting students from other institutions.

Each course offers three to four hours of college credit, requiring four to six hours of classroom time per week and about one to three hours of homework per class meeting. The credit earned may be transferable to a college degree. Courses range from math to science to English and more. A final course schedule will be available early March. This program is not a residential program, so students are responsible for their own housing.

The application process consists of submitting a completed application, teacher and counselor recommendation forms that are all available online, $75 application fee payable to Rice University, SAT 1 or ACT scores, and a transcript from all high schools attended. Only 20 students will be accepted. Admission into this program does not constitute admission into Rice University.

Tuition information can be foundĀ at www.collegeready.rice.edu/rhs. Two full-tuition scholarships will be based on financial need. Students who indicate they are interested in the scholarship and meet the eligibility requirements can waive the application fee.
