Folk Band Brings Freedom from Radio

As someone who isn’t always interested in swag and swaying at the club, it’s harder for me to find an artist that I truly like that is not over-played on the radio. Thankfully,  I discovered Mumford & Sons about a year and a half ago after typing in names of the few bands that I love;  a few recommended videos on YouTube later, there they were.

Mumford & Sons is a British indie folk band whose members all have a variety of instruments in their back pockets: yes, including banjos. No, this isn’t a family business, rather a band of young men who’ve known for a long time that music is what they love.

Their most recent album, “Sigh No More,” was released in February 2010 in the USA and I still can’t get enough of it. Most of the tracks have some sort of hoedown-like crescendo of a fast-paced flurry of instrumental harmonies, but each still remains its own and all tracks are distinguishable. My favorites off the album include “Little Lion Man,” “Winter Winds,” “The Cave,” and of course, the title track “Sigh No More.

With the continuation of their careers and the well-deserved attention that they are finally receiving, like  performances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, as well as their songs on television hits “Grey’s Anatomy” and “One Tree Hill”, Mumford and Sons will surely be on my radar for many more years to come.
